OMAKASE , OH MY!
The best fine-dining Japanese restaurant in the city, Asuka Japanese Dining, is welcoming early summer with a fabulously healthy and delectable seasonal omakase menu. The omakase menu is only available in May and June at Asuka. Some of the highlights are the Sakizuke (boiled jack-knife clam, grilled with mentaiko sauce), Usuzukuri (thinly sliced flounder and octopus served with cherry leaf), Suimono (turtle in clear soup), Yakimono (grilled sweet fish with salt), Aizakana (Wagyu beef with egg sauce) and several more.
MASHIKEH DUSEYO!
It’s a Korean food-fest at Sailendra June 10-19 and Chef Jae Sun Byun, guest chef from JW Marriott Hotel Seoul, is flying in to showcase his talents. He will cook many Korean dishes, including the famous kimchi and bulgogi. Kimchi is a traditional dish made of cabbage, radish, green onions or cucumber with various seasonings. There are hundreds of varieties and every good Korean chef has his own secret recipe. Bulgogi usually consists of marinated barbecued meat with spices. The name literally means “fire meat.” If you like your food hearty and spicy, just say the Korean phrase for bon appétit: Mashikeh duseyo!
ALL THE PRAWNS…
If prawns are your delight, head for Pearl in June. Executive Chinese Chef John Chu and his team will, for the entire month from June 3, present a stupendous “All You Can Eat Prawn Dishes” menu. Priced at Rp 238,000++ per person, the menu includes such all-time favorites as drunken tiger prawns, steamed mantis prawns with garlic and glass noodles in superior soy sauce, steamed or fried king prawns with XO black bean sauce, and wok-baked tiger prawns with garlic, shallot and dried chili “pei fei tong” style.
FREE WINE
How about this for an offer you can’t refuse? Blu Martini has brought back its TGIF gatherings, and is offering FREE wine tastings on June 10. Also, for those who love the strong and exquisite taste of Scotch, there will be malt whiskey tastings and promos on June 24, featuring Macallan 12 Years Old and 18 Years Old, Ardmore, Highland Park, Laphroaig and more. Blu Martini is the perfect place for meetings and gatherings, and for simply unwinding after work hours, especially with these two great promotional tippling events.
BIG DURIAN B-DAY
Jakarta, aka ‘The Big Durian,’ celebrates its anniversary on June 22, and you won’t want to miss the party at JW Marriott’s popular Sailendra restaurant. The celebrations take place over five days, June 22-26. Sailendra’s tantalizing buffet displays will feature lots of traditional Betawi dishes, such as pucung ikan gabus (fried wild catfish), pecak lele (fried catfish with wild ginger and chili), asinan Jakarta (traditional salad), semur jengkol (stinky beans served with sweet soy) and kerak telor (rice egg omelet with dried coconut). Finally, there will be a warung kopi dan teh (traditional coffee and tea stall) and many more special treats.
